British Police to Investigate Prescott
Sunday saw the British police announcing its investigation on Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott on allegations of corruption.
Prescott is suspected of breaking anti-corruption laws by staying at the Colorado ranch of super casino bidder Philip Anschutz.
Anschutz is the owner of the Millennium Dome in London, the Greenwich representative for the super casino bid.
"We've been informed of an allegation of corruption... and we're looking into the contents of those allegations," a spokesman for London's Metropolitan Police told AFP.
Under British law, ministers are forbidden from accepting "hospitality or consideration received from a person or organisation which has obtained or is trying to obtain an official contract."
Prescott was embroiled in controversy following his stay at the US estate of Anschutz summer of 2005, a trip that was not registered. He was also berated for receiving a cowboy outfit, a gift from Anschutz.
A parliamentary committee has recently found Prescott guilty of breaking the ministerial code. This recent corruption allegation was made by parliamentarian Norman Baker from the opposition Liberal Democrats.
A spokeswoman for Prescott however said that his office had "received no communication from the Metropolitan Police over this matter whatsoever."
