Western Outfit Causes More Tensions for Prescott
The political humiliation of Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott seems to never cease, what with the new reports that he received a cowboy outfit from the controversial casino tycoon Philip Anschutz.
There has also been a buzz that Downing Street is rearing to replace him with Environment Secretary David Miliband.
Prescott reportedly received the gift from Anschutz during his stay in the casino financier's Colorado ranch July of 2005.
Prescott is already facing enough troubles regarding his personal involvement with Anschutz. Anschutz is bidding for the Millennium Dome to be Britain's first super casino and Prescott has been accused of granting him political favors.
Prescott's office hasn't denied the claims that Prescott received the gift. The loot reportedly consisted of leather boots, a Stetson hat and a belt with a silver 'JP' monogrammed buckle.
A spokeswoman said all gifts the Deputy Prime Minister had received in the last year would be declared like usual - an annual declaration due later this month.
In light of the continuous controversy involving Prescott, his critics doubt if he should still take over for PM Blair like planned when he goes on holiday.
"When you look at every single paper full of it, with editorials, cartoons, all sorts of things, is it really realistic for him to stay on over the summer?" said Labour backbencher Kate Hoey.
